Celebrating the life of
Charlene Matlock Crawford
October 22, 1942 - November 29, 2013
Savannah- Charlene Matlock Crawford, 71, went home with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2013, after a long 8 year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Charlene was born in Savannah, Georgia, on October 22, 1942 and spent her entire life here. She fought a long, hard battle but she is now at peace. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mable Robbins Bunnell and her father, Charles Moore Matlock.
She is survived by her loving husband and wonderful caregiver of 55 years, Ralph H. Crawford. She is also survived by four daughters; Cathy Sistrunk Rick, Debbie Collins Ted, Nancy Bogue Lewis and Susan Melvin Daniel; her sister, Sandy Wiggins and brothers, Charles Matlock and Jimmy Groover. She had 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Dennis, Justin, Jason, Christine, Angelina, and 8 great grandchildren Michael, Gabe, Jasmine, Timothy, John, Aubrey Ann, Skyler and Caleb.
Charlene's career started working in the office at M&M grocers after attending Vocational Tech School. She then moved into banking and worked 25 years for C&S National Bank, NationsBank and Bank of America. She finished her career after ten additional years with The Savannah Bank. She was loved by her customers for her happy smile and helpful attitude. She just loved being able to help someone with whatever problem they had. She definitely believed that customer service should always be the priority even when she was out shopping.
Her warm, loving attitude, great love for the Lord and caring spirit will be missed by all her family and friends. She loved to take trips and especially enjoyed her dinners with her girlfriends. She was a wonderful and amazing wife and mother and was always there for her daughters and husband.
We would like to thank Dr. Grant Lewis and the staff at the Lewis Cancer Center for their compassion and care of Charlene. Also, thank you to the staff at Emory University and especially the staff at Hospice Savannah which made her journey to go home so much easier for the family.
The viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December2, 2013 at Islands Christian Church on Hwy 80, Whitemarsh Island with burial in Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice Savannah, P. O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

We are all bonded by blood and in Christ. I know that Charlene, Aunt Betty, and Mom Jane Berger are having a great party with no more wheelchairs, hearing aids, or glasses. And they've joined a much larger party that's already begun. Love you all, Angie

To the Crawford Family, Although I did not personally know Mrs. Crawford, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest sympathy to your family. No doubt the loss will be felt by many. You can take comfort knowing that God yearns to bring back those who have died. Job 14:13-15 May this and the many other promises in the Bible continue to comfort your family.
